How much do Bolshoi Ballet dancers make?!?

Hi,

How much do ballerinas, etc in the russian Bolshoi Ballet Theatre/Academy make as a salary in US dollars per year? Does anyone have an average or even a logical guess?!

I have a huge dream to be in it, but I know I will never be that good because I am 15 and have not had much training yet!

. . . and you have not been educated from just about BIRTH in their own system of ballet schools. And there is NO WAY to compare whatever it is they make to the thousands of grueling hours they have put into their training.

Fifteen, as you probably already know, is getting old for a ballerina to think of a career. maybe you can major in arts management or something else in college that will keep you AROUND the ballet - but dance is one of those rare careers where you had better be scooped up into a program when VERY young, or you will not catch up. I hate to sound negative, since i have taught music since 1971, and am VERY encouraging to students - otherwise, why would be on these lists??? - but you have about as much chance of making the Bolshoi as *I* do - and I am 57.

I am sorry you got such a rude response from some posters..... Yes, you will probably not be a professional dancer, but the training and effort will make you a better person.

I don't know about the Bolshoi, but I have some friends in a MAJOR Southwestern US ballet company and some others in a Baltic country's national company. They start at about $30000/year in the US and about ~$300-600/month in Estonia. Professional ballet is a tough way to make a living. Lots of sacrifices early for a short career (usually) that doesn't pay that much. But from personal amateur experience, there is NOTHING no drug...nothing on this planet like a wildly cheering audience that is appreciative for what you just did on stage. I wish you the best in all you do in the dancing world whether it be professional or amateur.
the money that dancers get is nothing compared to their hard work and determination, and dont let anyone tell you that your not gonna make it, if its all you really want then go for it and never let go, if you believe you can then you have just as much chance as anyone else it is better to try and fail then to fail to try, no matter what age you are, yes, you are old to be trying but theres nothing wrong with that and all things are possible, alot can be accomplished in a few years time, so neva give up and dnt let anyone tell you that youre never gonna make it, and um yer they make about $700 us a month.
